About Media Me

Media Me, you’re in my story is the title of a new film to be made, that wants to dramatise the Digital Revolution in a poetic and reflective way.
There are nine scenes with each one DR theme: identity, privacy, education, branding, overload, entertainment, location, future and addiction.
We’re collecting material on this log. Images first. Then text and music will be added.

There is a narrator, an ‘old man’, called Pictureman. His voice-over will be played by an English actor.
In Media Me we follow him, alone in his house and on the street. He’s got a beard, long gray hair and two hats: a summer hat and a winter hat. He’s a streetphotographer and lives in a big city.

Pictureman collects portraits, his passion is people. He puts them on Flickr. He doesn’t photograph flowers or plants. He’s got 707 contacts and over 3000 pictures on his Flickr account. Privcay is a total non isue for him; there’s nothing to hide. His real name is Akbar Simonse.

For collecting video material for MM, we’re going to medialise Akbar Simonse.
As a kind of ‘model’, he’ll be put in different media settings and surroundings. We’ll film him in his own house, with his computer. But also in hotelrooms, in CAVES, and of course, on the street.
How the final story will go, no one knows. Is he a traveller?
Akbar Simonse lives in The Hague, Netherlands.

Three camera(wo)men are working on the project right now: Ronnie Griens, René Willenborg and Matthijs Treurniet, student HKU/ AV.
Style: Documentary, with elements of fiction.
Sounds, voice-overs, texts and music will be added in a later phase: the final edit. We start with silent images only.

I work in an intuitive and associative way. In stead of a script, we “use” a man. Just one man, with a story, a photocamera and a computer. His window to the world, and mirror at the same time.
Suggestions for plots and story developments are welcome! Last suggestion is to make it a silent movie. But that may be a bit too ambitious.

The Media Me pool on Flickr is still growing and doesn’t seem te stop doing so.

Geschiedenis:

Het afgelopen jaar vonden reeds drie Media Me presentaties plaats, op uitnodiging van HotSpot.

Media Me 1. Skor.
Media Me 2. Beeld en Geluid.
Media Me 3. De Zwijger.

Media Me 4: Met de toekenning van het Stimuleringsfonds Nederlandse Culturel Mediaprodukties op 26 augustus 2008 ging Media Me een vierde fase in: Concept ontwikkeling voor een nieuwe interactieve website waarop tien scènes in beeld en geluid gepresenteerd worden. De scènes zijn afzonderlijk van elkaar als pod- en vodcast te volgen. Als geheel vormen de tien scènes een verhaal, TV proof.
De titels van de scènes zijn: Locate Me, Imagine Me, Brand Me, Educate Me, Inform Me, Be Me, Protect Me, Contact Me, Share Me, Entertain Me.
Het kloppende hart van het project is de Media Me groep op Flickr, opgezet door Bert Kommerij en beheerd door zestien Administratoren: Audringje, Haagse Uitburo, GALERIEopWEG, Maurits Burgers, MargrietPR, Roel1943, Marie-ll, Akbar Simonse, Rozwithart, Gurdonark (Texas), Habaneros, Marco Raaphorst, Renquedochan (Spanje), brievenbus en m@pestaartje.
De groep telt op dit moment 509 members (world-wide) en in de pool zitten 4605 Media Me foto’s.
